End of year 2025
Great year personally, but work-wise left a lot to be desired

Year in review

Completely missed my 2025 goals. I am unfazed though.
  1. < 160lbs, < 15% body fat - failed
  2. Growing AccessGrid revenue to > $10m/ARR - failed
  3. Spending time with and growing my family - partially succeeded

Health

I continued to struggle with body fat, even though I have been continually getting stronger and stronger. I can lift more than I ever have, but I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes. As I write this, I'm actually at my heaviest (190 lbs), I was able to get down to 175 early in the year. Looking forward to 2026, I'm going to put a lot of effort into muscle building first, then focus on a cut towards the middle of the year. I'm investing in a whoop and continuous glucose monitor to make sure I properly measure inputs. I'm also extremely focused on eliminating sugar from my diet - cutting a lot of carbs (not all) in the process. I'm optimistic I'll reach my health goals in 2026; because I have 4 years of practice behind me, tons of tools to measure input/output and particularly because they're very important for another one of my goals for 2026.

Uber eats consumption definitely went up again in 2025 as a consequence of us being so focused on work, but in 2026, I'm going to cook more at home, will be doing 16:8 intermittent fasting from afternoon to the morning (4pm-8am), meal prep and a lot more heavy lifting to build muscle.

AccessGrid

We grew 15x this year, which sounds great, but it's 98.4% lower than my original goal of $10m. I'm not going to revise my goal for 2026, because it's honestly where I think we should be. We have plenty of customers that could and actually SHOULD expand their usage footprint with us. I had to travel a ridiculous amount, everywhere from Vegas to Tokyo.

Even though we fell short in a big way, I am aware that we did make some progress. We raised $4.4m in October! Our name means something in the access control industry, we have a product that works well and we're well positioned to grow in 2026. It's also been very satisfying to be in control of my destiny even more directly, albeit a little scary. I also made a few offers to early team members and we have a long-time friend and co-worker, Chet Bortz joining.

We are working hard on a few big deals, and pushing hard to get our most devoted customers live.

Family

I got to spend a good amount of time with Family in the first half of the year as HF0 really allows for quality time maximization by taking care of all of the mundane life tasks. In the second half of the year, I had to travel a lot for work and it kept me away from spending time with the girls. We didn't get the opportunity to grow the family in 2025, but definitely carrying that goal forward to 2026.

Seeing my daughter grow has been the most fulfilling thing I've ever done in my life and nothing really compares. I'm traveling quite a bit in 2026, so I will be extra dilligent about being present with her when I'm home.

Others + photo dump

We got to do a few fun trips as a family, to the Bahamas, and to Menorca. Here's some flicks from both:

I also got to spend lots of time with friends this year. Saw Derrick a few times. Here's us at HF0 in SF:

And saw Stonly's first Muy Thai fight:

Was treated to an amazing Birthday dinner from Nathali:

And took Nat on a helicopter ride in NYC:

Some of the other great things that happened this year include: Getting to work with my wife every single day. QuickNode continuing it's growth trajectory. Not getting death threats against me and my family. Seeing the Heat play court side. Lots of good meals with friends.

2026 goals

This past year was honestly a weak one in terms of hitting goals, but it was so enriching from a personal standpoint, I'm ok with not hitting them. I am, however, very confident I'm going to get back on track in 2026. Here's the shortlist of items for this year:

  1. Grow AccessGrid to $10m ARR
  2. Hit < 160lbs, < 15% body fat
  3. Buy a new home for the family
  4. Add a new member to the family
  5. Teach my daughter how to count to 10
  6. Teach my daughter how to draw circles, squares and triangles

Until next year!
